Their life in brief
Born in Florence in 1515, Philip settled in Rome, served the poor, and guided people through spiritual conversation and confession.
The informal gatherings around him became the Congregation of the Oratory, where Scripture, music, friendship, and joyful holiness flourished.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!”
Philippians 4:4
What Philip Neri teaches us
Joy can be a form of humility: it loosens our grip on our image and makes the goodness of God believable to others.
Pause and reflect
01Where is God inviting me to practice holy joy today?
02Who may need the grace of this saint’s witness through my actions?
Let us pray
Saint Philip Neri, pray for me. Help me follow Jesus with holy joy and respond faithfully to the people and duties God has entrusted to me. May your witness draw me into deeper prayer, generous service, and confident hope in Christ. Amen.
Bring wholesome joy to someone today without making yourself the center.
