Their life in brief
Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of Rome serving Pope Sixtus II during the persecution of Valerian in the third century.
Entrusted with the Church’s material goods and care for the poor, he was martyred days after the pope and became one of Rome’s most beloved saints.
“Whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Matthew 25:40
What Lawrence teaches us
The Church’s treasure is not wealth or influence but Christ present in people who are poor, vulnerable, and easily ignored.
Pause and reflect
01Where is God inviting me to practice service of the poor today?
02Who may need the grace of this saint’s witness through my actions?
Let us pray
Saint Lawrence, pray for me. Help me follow Jesus with service of the poor and respond faithfully to the people and duties God has entrusted to me. May your witness draw me into deeper prayer, generous service, and confident hope in Christ. Amen.
