Their life in brief
A Basque soldier wounded in 1521, Ignatius encountered Christ while recovering and began noticing how different desires left lasting peace or emptiness.
After study and pilgrimage, he gathered companions who became the Society of Jesus and shaped the Spiritual Exercises to help people seek God’s will.
“Test everything; retain what is good.”
1 Thessalonians 5:21
What Ignatius of Loyola teaches us
Not every strong desire comes from God. Prayerful attention to its direction and lasting fruit helps reveal where grace is leading.
Pause and reflect
01Where is God inviting me to practice discernment today?
02Who may need the grace of this saint’s witness through my actions?
Let us pray
Saint Ignatius of Loyola, pray for me. Help me follow Jesus with discernment and respond faithfully to the people and duties God has entrusted to me. May your witness draw me into deeper prayer, generous service, and confident hope in Christ. Amen.
