Born in Egypt around 251, Anthony heard Christ’s call to give to the poor and withdrew into solitude, prayer, fasting, and spiritual combat.
Others came seeking his wisdom, and his witness helped shape Christian monastic life while reminding the Church that solitude can become communion with God.
